Hoggs of Fife Braemar Wellington Boots Review
Classic Natural Rubber Boots
Hoggs Braemar boots have that classic wellington boots look. Made from natural rubber with a cotton lining. The boots are good looking and can be worn as a stylish boot around town or as practical boots for gardening or walking the dog on a wet day. A good alternative to Hunter Original boots.

Hoggs of Fife may not be as well known as some of the bigger wellington boot brands, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make decent rubber boots. The company has two lines of wellington boots, the Field Sport boots and the Braemar boots. In this review, we look at the Braemar wellington boots, which are the more lightweight and stylish of the two lines.

Comfort
The Braemar boots offer a reasonable amount of comfort. You probably wouldn’t want to be walking huge distances in them, but for walking the dog or going to the shops the boots are ideal.
We found that the insole of the boots was a little on the thin side and didn’t offer much in the way of cushioning. Fortunately, the insole is removable, so it could be replaced with a better quality insole if required.
Warmth
The Braemar boots have not been designed to keep feet warm in cold conditions. The inner lining of the boots is a thin layer of cotton, which is primarily there to make it easier to put the boots on and take them off, not provide insulation. The rubber the boots are made from does provide a degree of insulation, but not much.
If you’re looking for a pair of boots that will keep feet warm in freezing conditions, then there are much better wellies for the cold than Hoggs Braemar boots.
Traction
The boots have a slip resistant rubber sole, which along with the small heel provides fairly good traction on most surfaces.
Style
If you like the look of Hunter Original boots, but don’t like the price, then Hoggs Braemar wellington boots could be for you. At first glance, these boots look very similar to the Hunter boots. The only obvious difference is that the Hoggs boots don’t have the distinctive Hunter logo on the front of them.
The Braemar boots are only available in two colours, blue and green. This is a shame as they could give Hunter a run for their money if they were available in a wide range of colours.
Final Thoughts
The Braemar’s will keep your feet dry in the wet, but they won’t keep feet warm in the cold. They’re ideal for light duties, such as walking the dog on a wet day. They’re not so good for walking long distances or wearing all day.
As we mentioned in the review the Braemar boots are great alternative to Hunter Original tall boots. They look very similar, are of a similar quality and the big plus is that they are nearly half the price!
Overall we have rate the Braemar boots as ‘Good‘ with a score of 4.3 out of 5.

I've been working with rubber boots (aka rain boots, wellies) in one way or another, since 2009. So, i've seen a lot of wellington boots in my time. I create most of the content for the website, which i hope you find useful.
