Hunter boots size up or size down

Hunter Boots Size Up Or Size Down

Many people believe that when buying Hunter rain boots or rain boots from any brand, you should go up a size bigger than your normal shoe size. This is not necessarily true and is the exception rather than the rule. The vast majority of Hunter boots are true to size. If you are normally a size 9 shoe size, then you should buy size 9 Hunter boots.

Even if you plan on wearing thick socks with your Hunter boots, it is still recommended that you go with your normal shoe size.

The reasons for this are:

  • Hunter rain boots are made from natural rubber, which will stretch slightly.
  •  Rain boots are not fitted and generally have more space in the foot area.

When to size up in Hunter boots

Hunter, like most rain boot manufacturers, only makes boots in full sizes. So, if you are a half-size the general rule is to size up, rather than the size down. If you find the boots are too big, then you can easily insert your own insole to get a better fit.

Some Hunter boots have an insulating lining, such as neoprene, to help insulate feet from the cold. These boots tend to have a more snug fit, which some people do not like. That’s not to say the boots will be tight fitting, but there won’t be the space that you get with non-insulated boots. If you’re someone who doesn’t like a snug fit, then it may be worth considering getting a size bigger.

There will be slight variations in the different styles of Hunter boots. So, a size 9 Hunter Original tall boot might come up slightly larger than a size 9 Hunter Intrepid snow boot. Usually, the variation in sizes between styles is minimal. The best way of finding out if a particular style of hunter boots runs large is to check out customer reviews left on sites such as Amazon.

When to size down in Hunter boots

There are no circumstances in which it is recommended to size down in Hunter boots. If Hunter manufactures a style of boot that runs on the large size, it will only be slightly larger than expected. It is fairly easy to get a large-fitting Hunter boot to fit, by wearing thick socks or inserting an insole. Getting a small rain boot to fit is much more difficult, but, not impossible, take a look at our guide on how you can stretch out Hunter boots.

Hunter boots sizing guide

Hunter boots have a sizing guide on their website which helps select the correct size boots. It should be noted that the sizing guide is specific to the Hunter Original boots and might not be the exact sizing for other styles of Hunter boots.
